ABOUT THE PROGRAM The Junior Grounded Horsemanship Program is a calm, hands-on learning experience designed to teach children genuine horsemanship from the ground up. This program is more than just riding lessons. Children learn how to safely understand, care for, communicate with and work alongside horses while developing confidence, responsibility, emotional awareness and foundational riding skills. At EKE, we prioritise: safety, horse welfare, confidence, calmness, connection, and correct foundations. We do not rush children through riding stages. Most riding is completed at a walk while children develop balance, communication and confidence before progressing further. WHAT CHILDREN WILL LEARN 🐴 Horse care & grooming 🐴 Groundwork & leading skills 🐴 Horse behaviour & communication 🐴 Saddling & equipment 🐴 Boundaries & safety 🐴 Emotional awareness & confidence 🐴 Foundational riding skills 🐴 Respect for both horse and rider SESSION STRUCTURE 90-Minute Sessions Sessions may include: grooming & care, groundwork, horse handling, mounted walking exercises, confidence-building activities, reflection & learning discussions. Most sessions include: approximately 45–60 minutes groundwork & horsemanship 15–30 minutes mounted riding at a walk. PARENT/GUARDIAN INVOLVEMENT Parents/guardians are required to attend sessions as part of the learning experience. This helps support: safety, consistency, child confidence, and long-term learning. There will be times where parents participate and times where observation is appropriate.
