At Equine Kinship Experience (EKE), we partner with horses to create meaningful opportunities for personal growth, emotional wellbeing and lifelong learning.

Our programs use hands-on, ground-based experiences with horses to strengthen communication, confidence, trust, self-awareness, emotional regulation, accountability and healthy relationships. Sessions may include grooming, leading, liberty work, herd observation and other experiential activities that encourage reflection, connection and personal insight.

Where appropriate, we also integrate creative and therapeutic approaches such as art, music, mindfulness and guided self-reflection to support deeper healing and personal development. Every experience is tailored to the individual's, group's or organisation's goals, creating a safe, compassionate and empowering environment where both people and horses are respected as equal partners in the journey.

Equine Assisted Psychotherapy

What is Equine Assisted Psychotherapy?

Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) is an experiential form of psychotherapy that combines evidence-informed counselling with meaningful interactions alongside horses in a natural environment. Unlike traditional talk therapy conducted solely in an office, EAP creates opportunities to explore thoughts, emotions, behaviours and relationships through real-life experiences with horses.

At Equine Kinship Experience (EKE), our sessions are primarily ground-based and no riding experience is required. Horses naturally respond to human emotions, body language and intention without judgement or expectation. Their honest feedback can help increase self-awareness, emotional regulation, confidence, communication, healthy boundaries and trust in both yourself and others.

Whether you are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, stress, burnout, low self-esteem or simply seeking personal growth, horses provide a unique opportunity to slow down, reconnect with yourself and experience change in a gentle, authentic and empowering way.

My Therapeutic Approach – EKE Therapist, Carmody Glass

Carmody Glass is a registered counsellor and psychotherapist with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA). She holds a Bachelor of Organisational Leadership from the University of New England (UNE) and a Graduate Diploma of Counselling & Psychotherapy from Edith Cowan University (ECU), complemented by further training in clinical hypnotherapy, equine-assisted practice, trauma-informed care and experiential learning.

Drawing on both professional expertise and extensive lived experience, Carmody provides a compassionate, relational approach that focuses on building genuine trust and rapport with every client. Her warm, encouraging nature and attentive listening style help people feel safe, heard and understood, allowing therapy to move beyond surface-level concerns to explore the deeper patterns that may be contributing to emotional distress or life challenges.

Rather than relying on a single therapeutic model, Carmody integrates counselling, psychotherapy and experiential approaches to create an individualised therapeutic journey for each client. Every session is thoughtfully tailored to the person's unique circumstances, strengths and goals, supporting meaningful and lasting change.

Horse Kinship & Grounded Horsemanship

We offer Horse Kinship lessons for all ages and genders, along with our Junior Grounded Horsemanship program (ages 7–17) and The Grounded Horsewoman program (women 18+).

​

Designed for beginner to intermediate riders, our sessions focus on developing confidence, connection and partnership with your horse through groundwork, horse husbandry and riding. We believe true confidence in the saddle begins with trust and congruence on the ground.

Lessons are available at your property for clients with their own horse (terms and conditions apply). Participants using their own horse must hold appropriate public liability and rider insurance.

Don't have a horse? You're welcome to work with one of ours. Our approach is gentle, compassionate and never rushed. We prioritise emotional safety and relationship-building, introducing riding only when both horse and participant are ready. Some of the most valuable learning happens on the ground, creating the foundation for a confident, balanced and respectful partnership.​
